Music licensing in Austria

Streaming music in your business isn't the same as listening to music at home. When you play music for an audience with a business and commercial purpose, you need different licenses.
Play it right
Soundtrack is built to bring you music that’s legal for your business. In Austria, almost everything you need is included in your Soundtrack plan except for a public performance license.

Change the way you play
Soundtrack offers an excellent selection of music because of our direct relationships with publishers, performing rights organizations and record labels. These include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and more. Our technology accurately tracks your song plays, which ensures that music creators get the right payments from us. Soundtrack Unlimited makes royalty payments about 5 times higher than streaming services for private use.

Music licensing in Austria
If you play music in your business in Austria, you'll need licenses from two separate collecting societies: AKM and LSG. Each protects a different set of rights, and each bills separately.
AKM (Staatlich genehmigte Gesellschaft der Autoren, Komponisten und Musikverleger) is Austria's oldest music rights society, founded in 1897 on the model of France's SACEM, the world's first collecting society. It represents composers, lyricists and music publishers, collecting license fees whenever their work is played in public and passing the resulting royalties back to its more than 23,000 members.
The other society you'll need is LSG (Wahrnehmung von Leistungsschutzrechten), which looks after performers, record labels and music video producers. LSG has been active in Austria since 1968, collecting royalties whenever a recording or music video is played, broadcast or reproduced in public. Like AKM, it also sets aside part of what it collects for a social and cultural fund that supports its rights holders, as Austrian law requires of collecting societies.
Since AKM and LSG protect different rights, Austrian businesses need to apply for licenses from both separately — there's no single joint license covering everything. Reach out to each society directly to find out what your business needs.
