Music licensing in Ecuador

Streaming music in your business isn't the same as listening to music at home. When you play music for an audience with a business and commercial purpose, you need different licenses.

As the music licensing space changes frequently, please note that the information on this website is for general guidance only. Soundtrack aims to provide accurate and current information, but cannot guarantee its completeness or accuracy. It is solely your responsibility as the user to ensure you hold all necessary licenses for your business, in accordance with the laws of relevant territories.

Music licensing in Ecuador

Playing music in an Ecuadorian business means covering two sets of rights: the songs themselves and the recordings of them.

SAYCE (Sociedad de Autores y Compositores del Ecuador) has represented Ecuadorian songwriters and composers since 1973, when its founding act was signed in the main hall of the National Conservatory of Music in Quito. As a member of CISAC, the global authors' rights confederation, it also collects on behalf of songwriters worldwide, through reciprocal agreements covering around 120 countries. SAYCE issues the license covering the authors' side.

The recording side covers performers and producers. SARIME (Sociedad de Artistas Intérpretes y Músicos Ejecutantes del Ecuador) represents Ecuador's performing artists and musicians, and was founded in 1999 under the country's then new intellectual property law. In practice the money owed to performers is collected alongside the producers' share, through a single-window arrangement with SOPROFON, the Ecuadorian producers' society, rather than by SARIME directly.
