Music licensing in Czech Republic

Streaming music in your business isn't the same as listening to music at home. When you play music for an audience with a business and commercial purpose, you need different licenses.

As the music licensing space changes frequently, please note that the information on this website is for general guidance only. Soundtrack aims to provide accurate and current information, but cannot guarantee its completeness or accuracy. It is solely your responsibility as the user to ensure you hold all necessary licenses for your business, in accordance with the laws of relevant territories.

Music licensing in Czech Republic

Playing music in a Czech business is simpler than it looks. Several collecting societies represent the rights involved, but since 2018 you only deal with one of them: OSA.

OSA is one of the oldest collecting societies in Europe, founded all the way back in 1919 by a group of composers and publishers. It represents composers, lyricists and publishers, and it's been an international player from early on: OSA was a founding member of both CISAC, the global authors' rights confederation, in 1926, and BIEM, the mechanical rights body, in 1929. One of its first directors was even a son of the composer Antonín Dvořák. Today its repertoire covers 3.5 million authors worldwide.

Since 2018 OSA has acted as the single contact point for the other Czech collecting societies too, including Intergram, which represents performers and the producers of sound and audiovisual recordings. So one license agreement with OSA covers the songs, the recordings and the performances, with OSA collecting according to each society's tariffs and passing the money on to them.

Rates depend on how you use music and the kind of premises you run. Get in touch with OSA directly to find out what your business needs.
