Music licensing in Turkey

Streaming music in your business isn't the same as listening to music at home. When you play music for an audience with a business and commercial purpose, you need different licenses.
Play it right
Soundtrack is built to bring you music that’s legal for your business. In Turkey, almost everything you need is included in your Soundtrack plan except for a public performance license.
Recording rights
Allows you to stream a specific sound recording of a song
Publishing rights
Allows you to stream the original composition
Change the way you play
Soundtrack offers an excellent selection of music because of our direct relationships with publishers, performing rights organizations and record labels. These include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and more. Our technology accurately tracks your song plays, which ensures that music creators get the right payments from us. Soundtrack Unlimited makes royalty payments about 5 times higher than streaming services for private use.

Music licensing in Turkey
Playing music in your business in Türkiye means licensing with more than one professional union. Each represents a different group of rights holders.
MESAM and MSG represent authors, composers and music publishers — the songwriters and publishers behind a song, rather than the performers or labels behind a recording. In practice the two license together on a joint tariff, so one agreement usually covers both. Since 2023 they've also organized into a federation, approved by and supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which has agreed a joint protocol with its counterpart on the recording side to make licensing more straightforward for businesses.
Fees are set annually and depend on the size of your premises, the kind of business you run, and how central music is to it — a bar or club pays more than a shop.
Playing music in a venue open to the public means signing license agreements with the relevant unions under Türkiye's Intellectual and Artistic Works Law. Get in touch with MESAM and MSG directly to find out what your business needs.
